One of the proposals is to move the tower out of town and only have 4G.
As stated, the tower itself is safe from the base. As long as you don’t hug the top you will be safe.
Even if you did, it would only warm your body possibly up to 1 degree Celsius.
If you were to climb a 4G tower to hug it then you would climb up to 200m. The technology is not going to hurt you if you make it. It would still be the same warming sensation.
But getting a better signal downtown would be great even if it was only 4G to avoid the following.
- Calls are lost especially in emergency situations. Our most vulnerable in the basement of Russell heights have no cell reception.
- Senior safety devices rely on cell phone signals to detect falls and other emergencies.
- All the cell devices in the low signal area use more power to get a signal, which means more radiation on the person.
The downside is that each provider would have to put up their own 200m tower outside of town. Currently around St. George that would at least one more tower to the south of St. George for each of Bell, Rogers and freedom mobile.
5G towers are smaller and will blend into town.
